Over the course of the semester, I’ve learned how to analyze a piece of writing, connect with people through handwritten letters, take time away for my phone to connect with my classmates and teacher, writing a blog post and I have also written a blog post.
The main component of this class that helped me grow in my writing was just practicing writing different forms of texts. Doing this gave options on how to compose a piece of writing. Writing the monthly letters gave the choice to write about what I wanted to whom I wanted, Writing the letters showed me you do not have to be in person or texting/calling them to see how they are doing or just to simply talk to them. For my letters, I write to my mom about how the day went so far, how much I appreciate her and how she doing.
Analyzing a piece of writing helped me learn how to breakdown a text and find a deeper meaning of the texts. Knowing how to break down a piece of writing helped me understand what was said and why it was said. Also analyzing a piece of writing to find a deeper meaning helped me when reading a certain text because the words could have a different meaning behind them that the author intended it to have. “Dressy bears” was the title of my textual analysis. When analyzing the Lenoir-Rhyne University advertisement I started out by breaking the ad into two different parts by looking at the picture that was provided first and then I looked at the text. Next, I looked at the picture and saw some flaws that I could write about in the essay. Lastly, I looked at the text and started to find more flaws.
Overall this semester in this class was honestly filled with many learning opportunities but writing the letters and learning how to analyze a piece of writing helped me grow as a reader and a writer.
